Santa Clara Water District

Take a look how this historic District Water Supplier reduced their budgeting cycle with Vena.

Since 1929, SCW has been managing an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County’s 1.9 million residents. They manage 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, 3 water treatment plants, a state of the art recycled water purification center as well as an advanced water quality laboratory.

The district controls about 400 acres of groundwater recharge ponds, providing wholesale water and groundwater management services to local municipalities and private water retailers. SCW also serves as the flood control agency for the Santa Clara County – they have invested more than $1 billion in flood protection efforts to date.

SCW was in the market for a solution that would reduce their budgeting process cycle and increase the efficiency required for planning and approval. They wanted to reduce the amount of manual work from their team members as much as possible. The District also wanted to improve their long term (15 year) planning and forecasting for models such as capital forecast, revenue, inter-fund transfers, debt proceeds, debt service, and cash reserve estimations.

They were searching for a solution that would integrate flawlessly with their existing PeopleSoft Financial system. Out of 11 different Vendors in the market, they chose Vena.

Why Vena?

  • Staying within Excel made the end-users comfortable in being able to embrace and use the new solution.
  • They felt that Vena offered a solution with relatively low change management.
  • Product presentation and demonstration was a game changer
  • Every step of the way the entire Vena team was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable
